The Dvorak is the latest reference-quality loudspeaker for component audio systems to come from the experienced technical pioneers of Audio Artistry. It sets a new acoustic performance standard and challenges any loudspeaker available today.
The Dvorak uses the well known dipole design concept in a novel way. It is a moderately directional loudspeaker over all of its frequency range. It illuminates the listening room with sound, which at any angle is almost perfectly matched to the on-axis output, except lower in level. This not only ensures a smooth spectral balance of the reverberant sound field, it quite literally removes the inherent acoustic contributions of the listening environment.
Painting a perfect soundstage begins with the bold strokes of creative audio engineering mastered by Audio Artistry and their latest creation, the Dvorak.
Artists In Residence
The design of the Dvorak is the culmination of more than twenty years of audio experience and experimentation with various loudspeaker concepts led by Audio Artistry's Siegfried Linkwitz. He is best known as the creator of the "Linkwitz-Riley crossover" filter, the accepted standard in high performance loudspeakers. Although an important ingredient to the Dvorak, the crossover is only one in a long list of breakthrough design elements.
The Dvorak is the first truly compact dipole loudspeaker. It avoids the non-uniform, off-axis frequency response behavior of large radiator surfaces and their critical listening position. The Dvorak's much smaller size, compared to conventional electrostatic or magnetic planar dipole speakers, is due to the use of high quality electrodynamic drive units. They are capable of larger excursions and much higher dynamics. In fact, the Dvorak carries the dipole concept to the subwoofer frequencies and thereby achieves a new naturalness in bass reproduction.
State Of The Original Art
The quality of sound in your listening room is the final test of any loudspeaker.
The Dvorak's dipole behavior diminishes the room's sonic signature and its masking effect upon subtle details in a recording. The dipole delivers more sound towards the listening position and less to the other parts of the room compared to a conventional box type loudspeaker. As a result, only one-third of the acoustic power is available to excite your room's resonances, reflections and reverberation. Therefore, the Dvorak removes one of the most variable and problematic sources of distortion in home audio, the listening environment.
The dipole action is achieved by mounting the two 8" midrange drivers of the Dvorak's Main speaker on an open baffle. Thus, they radiate unimpeded front and back. This avoids any boxiness and the sound is free from cabinet induced sound colorations.
The dipole concept is also used for the separate woofers. Two 12" drivers in each speaker radiate front and back into the room. This form of sound propagation reduces the number of standing waves that often cause an uneven low frequency response. Combined with the low distortion of the woofer, the resulting bass reproduction is very true to life.
At high frequencies, a specially selected 1" dome tweeter provides a wider and more uniform dispersion than can be obtained from a large panel or long ribbon type dipole. This avoids the problem of confining a listener to one small listening position, commonly referred to as "the sweet spot."
The complete Dvorak loudspeaker system consists of two freestanding Main Units, two Woofers and an active electronic Crossover/Equalizer. The highest quality materials have been used in its construction, with attention paid to every detail. Two stereo amplifiers are required to drive the system.
For smaller rooms or where the full low frequency extension and output capability is not needed, the two Main speakers may be used by themselves. This configuration delivers an extremely satisfying listening experience when equalized at low frequencies with the Dvorak Crossover/Equalizer. The system can be easily upgraded by adding the two Woofers at a later time.
Listening to the quality of sound reproduction with either configuration of the Dvorak is a whole new experience in realism. The sound stage is wide and high. As you close your eyes, you feel transported to the place of recording, each musician forming a vivid image of vibrant, visceral sound.
